There is just something about original art. It fills the room with character and expression, and can completely change the feel of a space. It’s almost as if you can feel the artists touch, intention, and expression – as if it’s a living thing.

But since artwork can be expensive, it’s important to be strategic if you don’t have a huge budget. A great way to acquire original art is to attend local art fairs and galleries. Invest in original art that interests you – there’s no right or wrong. Have it professionally framed if it’s in the budget, but if it’s not you can frame them yourself (in this case make sure you’re buying art in standard frame sizes) I learned this the hard way.

Original art is about expressing yourself. We all gravitate to different things for different reasons. This could happen consciously or subconsciously. For that reason it’s fun to see the artwork that speaks to the people around us. Visiting their home can be a visit into their soul.
Art is also a great way to create a “concept” for your home. If You are decorating a home, and you have a piece of art that you love and inspires you, it often helps to use that as your blueprint for your design decisions. It helps you to stay focused and guided in your design selections.

I suggest making that extra effort to acquire original art in your life. They will be cherished throughout your lifetime and possibly even beyond your lifetime. I think it’s special to own art that no one else has. It makes your home unique and one of a kind – just like you.

Do you own any original art? If so, where did you get it? I’d love to know!
